A bathroom is the least forgiving room in the house
It is small, it is lit from every angle, and it is wet. Every joint line is visible from arm’s length, every fall has to actually drain, and everything behind the tile has to hold up for years without ever being seen again.
Most bathroom failures are not tile failures. They are preparation failures — a substrate that was not flat, a waterproofing detail that was rushed at a corner, a shower floor that was never properly formed to the drain. By the time it shows, the finish has to come off to fix it.
We treat the bathroom as one complete environment rather than a set of separate trades. Demolition, substrate, waterproofing, layout, installation and finishing are planned together, so the decisions made in week one still make sense in the final walkthrough.
The scope, written down.
Everything below is part of the job, not an extra that appears once work has started.
Request a Consultation-
Demolition and removal
Existing finishes stripped back, debris removed, adjacent rooms protected throughout.
-
Substrate preparation
Floors and walls corrected until flat, sound and square enough to carry a large-format finish.
-
Waterproofing
Wet areas sealed with a continuous membrane, with particular attention to corners, changes of plane and penetrations.
-
Shower systems
Formed shower floors falling correctly to point or linear drains, curbed or curbless entries, glass-ready tolerances.
-
Niches and benches
Recessed niches and built-in benches framed, waterproofed and tiled so the surrounding joint lines carry straight past them.
-
Tile installation
Walls and floors set to a planned layout, with cuts landing where they were designed to land.
-
Final finishing
Grouting, silicone, edge profiles, transitions and fixture trims completed and reviewed item by item.

The five stages of a bathroom remodeling project.
The same defined process on every job, adapted to what this particular service actually needs.
On a bathroom the planning stage carries the most weight. Layout, drain position, niche heights and the point where cuts land are all resolved before demolition finishes.
Start Your Project-
Consultation
We walk the space, measure it, and listen to what the finished room needs to do. Goals, materials and expectations get written down before anything else happens.
-
Planning
Scope, materials, layout and execution details are defined up front — including the axes, joint lines and cut points that decide how the finished surface reads.
-
Preparation
The room is isolated, the rest of the home is protected, and the substrate is corrected and waterproofed before a single tile is set.
-
Installation
The material is set to the planned layout: continuous alignment, consistent joints, clean cuts at every fixture, penetration and transition.
-
Final Walkthrough
We review the finished project item by item with you before it is considered complete — grout lines, edges, silicone, transitions and hardware.
What you are actually paying for.
-
Waterproofing you never have to think about
Membranes are taken continuously through corners, changes of plane and every penetration — the details that decide whether a shower lasts.
-
Layout planned to the fixture
Joint lines are set out so they run past niches, benches, valves and drains rather than dying awkwardly into them.
-
Large-format capability
Flat substrates, correct setting technique and lippage control, so large panels sit as one continuous plane.

Bathroom Remodeling across Tampa Bay, Florida.
General Tile Company provides bathroom remodeling services throughout Tampa Bay, including South Tampa, St. Petersburg, Lutz, Wesley Chapel, Lakeland, Hudson, Palm Harbor and Westchase.
The work changes with the neighbourhood. Older South Tampa and St. Petersburg homes usually need real substrate correction before a large-format tile will sit flat, while newer builds in Wesley Chapel and Lutz are more often about layout, material selection and getting a custom shower right the first time.

Bathroom Remodeling, answered.
How long does a bathroom remodel take?
Most full bathroom remodels run three to five weeks on site, depending on the size of the room, the scope of demolition and how much substrate correction is needed. Waterproofing and setting materials also need proper cure time, which we build into the schedule rather than working around. You get a projected timeline in writing at the planning stage.
Do you handle tile installation and waterproofing?
Yes. Waterproofing is part of our scope, not a separate trade handed off before we arrive. We prepare the substrate, apply and detail the membrane through corners and penetrations, and then install over our own work — so there is a single point of responsibility for the wet area.
Can you install large-format tile?
Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Large-format porcelain is unforgiving: the substrate has to be genuinely flat, the setting technique has to give full coverage, and lippage has to be controlled across every joint. We prepare specifically for it rather than trying to make the tile absorb a substrate problem.
Do you install shower niches and benches?
Yes. Niches and benches are framed, waterproofed and tiled as part of the shower build. We set their heights and widths during planning so the surrounding tile joints run straight past the opening instead of stopping at it — which is what makes a niche look designed rather than added.
Do you work in South Tampa and St. Petersburg?
Yes. South Tampa and St. Petersburg are two of our most frequent service areas, along with Lutz, Wesley Chapel, Lakeland, Hudson, Palm Harbor and Westchase.
Can we stay in the house during the remodel?
In most cases yes, provided there is another usable bathroom. The work area is isolated with dust protection, access routes are covered, and the site is cleaned at the end of each working day.
Often part of the same project.
Most rooms need more than one surface. These are the services that usually run alongside this one.
