Living room feature wall clad floor to ceiling in pale stacked stone, by General Tile Company
Tampa Bay, Florida

Wall Coverings in Tampa Bay

Feature walls, full-height runs and geometric layouts, set out so the pattern reads as one deliberate surface.

Why it matters

A wall is a single surface, and the eye reads it all at once

On a floor you look down at one area at a time. On a wall you take in the whole plane in a single glance, which means a joint that drifts by two millimetres over three metres is visible — and a pattern that was never set out from a centre line is obvious immediately.

Geometric layouts make that harder, not easier. Chevron, herringbone and basketweave only look effortless when the axis was chosen first and every cut at the perimeter was planned to balance. Zellige and handmade tile add their own variation, which has to be worked with rather than fought.

We set out the wall before we set the first tile: the axis, the centre line, where full pieces land, where the cuts go, and how the pattern meets the ceiling, the return and the adjacent surface.

What we do

The scope, written down.

Everything below is part of the job, not an extra that appears once work has started.

  • Large-format porcelain

Panels up to feature-wall scale, installed flat with lippage controlled across every joint.

  • Marble and natural stone

Veining sequenced across the run so the pattern carries through the joints instead of stopping at them.

  • Geometric layouts

Chevron, herringbone, basketweave, hexagon and penny round set out from a defined axis.

  • Zellige and handmade tile

Installed with the variation and irregular edges treated as the finish, not as a defect to be hidden.

  • 3D relief tile

Dimensional tile aligned so the relief pattern stays continuous across the full surface.

  • Feature and accent walls

Full-height runs and returns, including ceiling returns and reveals.

  • Edges and terminations

Mitres, profiles and terminations detailed so the wall finishes cleanly at every boundary.

How it runs

The five stages of a wall coverings project.

The same defined process on every job, adapted to what this particular service actually needs.

For wall coverings, most of the value is created in planning. The axis, centre lines and cut balance are agreed before installation starts.

Start Your Project
  1. Consultation

We walk the space, measure it, and listen to what the finished room needs to do. Goals, materials and expectations get written down before anything else happens.

  2. Planning

The layout is drawn: axis, centre lines, where full tiles land, where cuts fall, and how the pattern meets every edge and return.

  3. Preparation

Furniture and adjacent rooms are protected, the work area is isolated, and the substrate is corrected until it is flat, sound and ready to receive the material.

  4. Installation

The material is set to the planned layout: continuous alignment, consistent joints, clean cuts at every fixture, penetration and transition.

  5. Final Walkthrough

We review the finished project item by item with you before it is considered complete — grout lines, edges, silicone, transitions and hardware.

Why General Tile Company

What you are actually paying for.

  • Set out before it is set

Centre lines, axes and cut balance are decided on paper and on the wall before any adhesive is mixed.

  • Continuous alignment

Joints run through openings, past niches and around returns instead of restarting at every obstacle.

  • Material-specific technique

Zellige, large-format porcelain and 3D relief each get an approach suited to how they actually behave.

Where we work

Wall Coverings across Tampa Bay, Florida.

General Tile Company installs wall coverings throughout Tampa Bay, including South Tampa, St. Petersburg, Lutz, Wesley Chapel, Lakeland, Hudson, Palm Harbor and Westchase.

Feature walls come up most often in Palm Harbor and South Tampa remodels, where a single well-executed surface does more for a room than a full renovation. In newer Westchase and Wesley Chapel homes the request is usually a full-height run that ties an open plan together.

Questions

Wall Coverings, answered.

Can you install zellige and handmade tile?

Yes. Handmade tile has variation in thickness, colour and edge profile by design. It needs tighter joints, careful blending across boxes and a different setting rhythm than a calibrated porcelain. We plan for the variation rather than trying to force it flat.

What is the largest tile you install?

We regularly work with large-format porcelain panels for feature walls and shower surrounds. The limit is usually access and substrate rather than the tile itself — the wall has to be genuinely flat, and the panel has to physically reach the room.

Can you match veining across a marble wall?

Where the material allows it, yes. Veined porcelain and natural stone can be sequenced so the pattern carries across the joints. It has to be planned at the ordering stage, because it affects how much material you need and how it is cut.

Do you install chevron and herringbone on walls?

Yes. Both are set out from a defined axis so the points align and the perimeter cuts balance on each side. That decision is made before installation, since it cannot be corrected later.

Do you cover Lutz and Palm Harbor?

Yes. We install wall coverings across Tampa Bay, including Lutz, Palm Harbor, South Tampa, St. Petersburg, Wesley Chapel, Lakeland, Hudson and Westchase.
