Stair Installation in Tampa Bay
A stair is the one surface people touch with their feet and their hands. Every step has to measure the same.

The foot notices what the eye forgives
You can look at a floor and miss a two-millimetre error. You cannot walk up a stair and miss one. The body builds a rhythm from the first step, and a single riser that is taller or shorter than the rest breaks it — which is why an uneven flight feels wrong before anyone can say why.
That makes a stair a set-out problem, not an installation problem. Total rise divided by the number of risers has to come out even, the nosings have to project the same distance on every tread, and the landing has to meet the flight in the same plane and the same material.
We measure the whole flight before cutting anything, work out where the tolerance has to be absorbed, and set the treads to one line from bottom to top rather than fitting them one step at a time.
The scope, written down.
Everything below is part of the job, not an extra that appears once work has started.

Set-out and measurement
Total rise and going measured and divided so every riser in the flight comes out at the same height.
-
Treads
Solid timber, engineered plank or porcelain treads cut and fixed to a single consistent projection.
-
Risers
Painted, clad or tiled risers finished square to the tread above.
-
Nosings and edges
Nosing profiles aligned down the flight, with the front edge detailed to take the wear.
-
Landings
Landings laid in the same material and direction as the flight so the run reads as one surface.
-
Tiled and patterned risers
Encaustic-look and patterned tile set into risers with the pattern balanced across the flight.
-
Balustrade interfaces
Treads cut around newels, posts and cable or glass balustrades with a clean, tight junction.

The five stages of a stairs project.
The same defined process on every job, adapted to what this particular service actually needs.
On a stair almost everything is decided at measurement. Once the riser height is set, every tread follows from it.
Start Your Project-
Consultation
We walk the space, measure it, and listen to what the finished room needs to do. Goals, materials and expectations get written down before anything else happens.
-
Planning
The flight is measured as a whole: total rise, riser count, tread projection and how the landing is going to meet the run.
-
Preparation
Furniture and adjacent rooms are protected, the work area is isolated, and the substrate is corrected until it is flat, sound and ready to receive the material.
-
Installation
The material is set to the planned layout: continuous alignment, consistent joints, clean cuts at every fixture, penetration and transition.
-
Final Walkthrough
We review the finished project item by item with you before it is considered complete — grout lines, edges, silicone, transitions and hardware.
What you are actually paying for.
-
Every riser the same height
The flight is divided before anything is cut, so the rhythm holds from the first step to the last.
-
Nosings on one line
Tread projections are set to a single measurement rather than fitted step by step.
-
Stair and floor as one run
Landings and adjoining floors are laid in the same material and direction, so nothing restarts at the top.

Stairs across Tampa Bay, Florida.
General Tile Company installs and refinishes stairs throughout Tampa Bay, including South Tampa, St. Petersburg, Lutz, Wesley Chapel, Lakeland, Hudson, Palm Harbor and Westchase.
Two-storey homes in Lutz, Wesley Chapel and Westchase usually want the stair to match a new floor going in downstairs. In older South Tampa and St. Petersburg houses the flight itself is often out of true, so the set-out has to absorb the error rather than pass it up the stairs.

Stairs, answered.
Can you replace treads without rebuilding the staircase?
In most cases yes. If the structure underneath is sound, the existing treads and risers can be covered or replaced with new timber or porcelain while the carriage stays where it is. We check the structure first, because cladding over a flight that already moves only hides the problem.
Can the stair match my new floor?
Yes, and it usually should. Where the floor is engineered plank or wood-look porcelain we use the same material on the treads and carry the direction through the landing, so the stair reads as a continuation of the floor rather than a separate element.
Do you tile stair risers?
Yes. Patterned and encaustic-look risers are one of the more striking things you can do with a flight. The pattern has to be balanced across the width and repeated identically up the run, which is decided at set-out rather than as the tiles go on.
Why is one of my steps a different height?
Almost always because the flight was fitted step by step instead of divided as a whole, and the leftover error ended up in the first or last riser. It is the most common stair fault we are called to correct, and it is fixed by re-setting the flight, not by adjusting one step.
Do you work around cable and glass balustrades?
Yes. Treads are cut around newels, posts and cable or glass systems so the junction is tight and the fixing is not left exposed. Where the balustrade is being replaced too, we sequence the two so neither trade damages the other.
